Paige Tobin Advocates for Special Education on Capitol Hill

U.S. Congressperson Jim McGovern with Paige Tobin and Massachusetts Administrators for Special Education in Washington, D.C.

MLM attorney and principal shareholder Paige Tobin joined fellow representatives of Massachusetts Administrators for Special Education (ASE) in Washington, D.C., over the summer to advocate for special education on a national level.

The group traveled to Capitol Hill for several days over July 2024, meeting with U.S. Congressperson Jim McGovern and congressional staff for many other members of the Massachusetts delegation to Congress, to discuss pressing issues in special education, especially in the areas of funding and awareness.

In particular, ASE expressed to congressional staff the importance of increased IDEA funding and education appropriations and the importance of supporting mental health initiatives, particularly in our public schools. ASE also sought to explain t the issues with over- and under-representation in special education and challenges in recruiting special educators and special education administrators.

In addition to her daily work at Murphy, Lamere & Murphy as legal counsel to schools throughout Massachusetts, Paige is a frequent lecturer and author of several publications in the Massachusetts Special Education Reporter and Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education materials, as well as a member of the Board of Directors of the Massachusetts Council of School Attorneys. Paige is also a longtime Advisor to ASE, and MLM is proud of the work Paige and her fellow ASE representatives do for special education advocacy.
