Caitlin L. Mulrooney and Marianne Peters Teaching Course on Special Education Administration

MLM attorneys Caitlin Leach Mulrooney and Marianne Peters are kicking off the spring semester at Bay Path University as joint instructors in an advanced course for undergraduate students covering subjects such as Bureau of Special Education case analysis, decision making, and in-depth coverage of selected topics including Section 504, school refusal, Children Requiring Assistance (CRA) and civil rights.

During the course, students are led through an-depth exploration of federal and state laws and regulations impacting education, with a focus on topics presenting challenges to school engagement. During the first half of the course, students will examine state and federal laws regarding student access to education, including discipline and civil rights, Title IX, Section 504, and Title VI, unilateral placements and the legal framework for seeking a placement order from the BSEA, and he legal implications of students who present with challenges which create barriers to school engagement, such as school refusal, truancy, mental health, and behavioral challenges.

At MLM, Caitlin’s and Marianne’s practices are focused primarily in the areas of general and special education and student services matters.
